Local Agencies Break Ground on the Vine Trail’s St. Helena to Calistoga Segment
Today, the Napa Valley Transportation Authority broke ground on the Vine Trail’s St. Helena – Calistoga Segment. NVTA is proud to partner with the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition, the County of Napa, and the Cities of St. Helena and Calistoga on this 14-month long construction project.
This segment of the Vine Trail links users to St. Helena and Calistoga, two state parks, schools including the Culinary Institute of America and the Napa Valley College St. Helena Campus, and job opportunities. The new 7.4-mile-long segment will begin at St. Helena’s Pratt Avenue and parallel State Route 29 (crossing the highway twice), ending at Calistoga’s Lincoln Avenue. The total construction cost is $12.58 million.
“The Vine Trail project is essential to the economic well-being of the Napa Valley,” said Congressman Mike Thompson. “The local economy in the north end of the Valley is dependent on the 1.6 million visitors who visit the over 100 wineries, spas, and resorts. The investments made in this project will result in 230 direct jobs for one year, with additional indirect and induced job creation.”
“The Vine Trail demonstrates the partnership it takes to deliver a multijurisdictional project,” said Napa County Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza, who also serves as the chair of NVTA and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. “It has taken a large lift by NVTA and funding partners to piece together a myriad of federal, state, regional, and local funds to get the project ready for construction. This project continues to be a shining example of what a public-private partnership can achieve.”
When completed, the Vine Trail will be a 47-mile-long bike and pedestrian trail linking Napa and Solano Counties, from the City of Calistoga to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. This will give Vine Trail users the opportunity to explore the Napa Valley as well as the Greater Bay Area. Additionally, the St. Helena to Calistoga segment will link to the Bay Area Ridge Trail, which is a 550-mile multi-use trail throughout the entire Bay Area.
